 I agree too! I bouht the DS708 in the states,becouse of a good promotion where i could get 2 more autel devices. but i live and work in south america, so the scanner was sent to me via air mail. And surprise, no chinese car coverage.
The amount of chinese cars being sold here is amazing. So the need to have diagnostic equipment capable to comunicate with them is a constant need.   I bought this tool becouse in the videos i watched i saw the list of cars like great wall ,jac, and others.
 I think that since Autel offers so many other car support that one never will use, (Euroean brands i never heard of) and since they  allow you to uninstall  from your memory card , I dont see WHY you cant have the option of load and configure your tool to your particular needs, with the brands you work with every day. Thats why I invested on this tool for.
I think the DS708 is a great scanner, but this little issue with chinese coverage sometimes makes me mad, and wished to have invested on other brand instead. I hope the Autel guys read this and realize that we as car technitians need to get the most out of our investment, so that we can also recomend this brand to other thechnitians.

 Dear customers, Chinese cars are covered by non-US and non-EU DS708s, with the language of English. For example, if your DS708 is bought in  Asia and the tool is in English language, then Chinese cars are available with recent update. If you are not quite sure where it is originally bought, please just tell me the S/N.

  This sort of pre-purchase information isn't provided up front.  Though a pain, I'm sure a local legal case can be made which will politely urge Autel to do the proper and legal thing by providing a region-locked DS708 with the appropriate vehicle support as expected at time of purchase.
